Work Experience - Bronze Accreditation

In 2017 UHNM was awarded the 'Fair Train' Bronze Work Experience Quality Standard accreditation, which is validated by national standards and demonstrates that we recognise the value of high quality work experience and employability provision. The accreditation is valid for two years from 25th August 2017.

Apprentices

Our team who support apprentices were recognised by the hospital's Chief Executive Paula Clark recently. Read the article below:

UHNM is currently helping over 150 apprentices from ages 16 – 60+ to develop their career. The Trust employs a dedicated Learning Education and Widening Participation Team and a Care Coach team to help maintain working relationships with individual departments and support the upcoming workforce. Apprentices work across many different areas of the hospital and are able to gain experience and confidence as they develop their skills.

Ian Carruthers, Head of Widening Participation, said: "The team who recruit and support these fledgling members of staff are passionate about making sure people from all walks of life have the opportunity to enhance their career. We enable our apprentices by 'getting in, getting on and going further'."

The Widening Participation team at UHNM has recently won the Health Education West Midlands 'Large Apprenticeship of the Year' award. The award recognises exemplar employers who demonstrate their on-going commitment and contribution to the support of apprentices and the success that apprenticeships have bought to their organisation. The team has also now been given the Chief Executive's Award in recognition of their efforts.

Paula Clark, Chief Executive, said: "The wide age range of apprentices we support at UHNM is proof that age doesn't matter and it's never too late to start learning a new skill.  It is incredibly important to nurture talent and encourage people and the team are doing a fantastic job of making sure this happens."
