Consultant Ophthalmologist, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, and Surgical Retina Lead

I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist, Vitreoretinal Surgeon, and Surgical Retina Lead at Royal Stoke University Hospital, with over 10 years of experience as an NHS consultant and more than 18 years in ophthalmology. I began my ophthalmology career in 2006 after graduating from Cardiff University School of Medicine in 2002. Following completion of my postgraduate training within the West Midlands Deanery, I undertook a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Royal Hallamshire Hospital before being appointed as an NHS Consultant in Stoke-on-Trent in 2016.

My clinical practice focuses on vitreoretinal surgery and cataract surgery, including complex cases and high-volume cataract surgery. I am committed to surgical education and training, having served as a College Tutor for six years and trained numerous ophthalmologists in both vitreoretinal and cataract surgery. In recognition of my contribution to training, I was awarded Trainer of the Year in the West Midlands region and was also named Trainee of the Year during my final year of postgraduate training.

I maintain an active interest in clinical research and have authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. As a member of the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons, I prospectively audit all retinal detachment and macular hole surgeries, contributing data to the BEAVRS and EURETINA Vitreoretinal Retinal Detachment Outcomes Group and Macular Hole Outcomes Group. These collaborative research initiatives have generated multiple publications that have made meaningful contributions to advancing vitreoretinal practice and patient outcomes.
