Welcome to the Stoke-on-Trent Community Diagnostic Centre

The Stoke-on-Trent Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) is making it easier for local people to access vital diagnostic tests and scans closer to home.

Opened in May 2026, the purpose-built, multi-million-pound facility has been developed by University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) to provide patients with quicker and more convenient access to a wide range of diagnostic services. By bringing services together under one roof, the centre will help reduce waiting times, support earlier diagnosis and treatment, and improve the overall patient experience.

Located on the former Sainsbury's site on Etruria Road, Hanley ST1 5NQ, the centre is expected to provide up to 180,000 tests and scans every year.

 The centre has been designed with patient comfort, accessibility and convenience at its heart, featuring: 14 clinic rooms, 4 endoscopy procedure rooms, 2 CT scanner rooms, 2 x ray plain film, 2 MRI scanner rooms, 5 ultrasound scan rooms and 3 blood test rooms, plus modern waiting areas and patient amenities and accessible facilities throughout.

Community Diagnostic Centre's provide patients with a co-ordinated set of diagnostic tests in the community and in as few visits as possible, enabling an accurate and fast diagnosis on a range of clinical pathways. 

The opening of the Stoke-on-Trent Community Diagnostic Centre represents a significant investment in healthcare for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent. By increasing diagnostic capacity and improving access to tests and scans, the centre will play a vital role in helping people receive the right diagnosis and treatment as early as possible.

  • Respiratory 8am-6pm Monday-Friday
  • Phlebotomy-  8am-6:45pm  Monday & Wednesday  8am-4:45 Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, Saturday-Sunday 8am-12:45
  • X-rays 8am-8pm Monday-Sunday
  • Endoscopy 8am-6pm Monday-Friday
  • MRI scans 7am-8pm Monday-Sunday
  • Ultrasound scans 8:30am-5pm Monday-Friday
  • ENT 9am-1pm Monday-Friday
  • Gynaecology  8-6pm Wednesday
  • Liver Screening 8am-6pm Monday-Wednesday
  • Sleep 8am-6pm Monday-Friday 
  • Children's Asthma 8am-6pm Monday-Thursday

Patients will receive information about their appointment, including travel and parking details, in their appointment letter.

Yes. Parking is free for anyone with an appointment. This is through ANPR.

You will be asked to input your registartion plate number upon arrival.

The CDC is located on Etruria Road in Hanley; it is 12-minute walk from Hanley Bus station, or you can catch the 38, 38A, 39, 39A,104 which stops outside of the site from Hanley Bus station. 

 

Yes, you can bring someone with you. However, they may not be able to accompany you into the examination rooms except in special circumstances. 

If you require any reasonable adjustments please get in touch with the number on your appointment letter to advise of any adjustments required.

Where a diagnostic test is required, the GP will make the appropriate referral, all referrals will be screened for patient suitability to be seen at the CDC. You will be informed of where to attend your appoint via a letter. 

No, it will not cause a delay in your appointment, one of the key aims of the CDC is to speed up waiting times for diagnostic tests. 

The CDC is not an emergency care centre; the CDC will provide patients with access to diagnostic tests that are accessible through GP referrals.

Emergency care can be sought from NHS 111 or if it is life threatening, please call 999.  

The CDC is focused on diagnostic testing, your results will then be passed to the most appropriate care provider, this could be back to you GP or passed onto a consultant at the hospital.  

The diagnostic testing that you receive at the CDC is of the same standard as the diagnostic testing that would be received on the hospital sites. There is no difference in the care you will receive, the benefit is that by sending the appropriate patients to the appropriate diagnostic sites it should speed up waiting times for diagnostic tests. An added benefit of the CDC is that it will aim to offer multiple appointments in the same trip for those that need different tests.
