Having qualified as a staff nurse from Keele University in 2002, I started my career on the emergency surgery ward at this hospital, before moving to the ophthalmology ward later that year. I was part of a team looking after both day case surgery patients and inpatients under the care of ophthalmology. This started my interest in ophthalmic nursing as a career.

After a short break for maternity leave, I transferred to the Emergency Eye Clinic, before being part of the initial team and start-up of the Macular clinic and intravitreal injection service in 2008. During my time as a staff nurse on the Macular clinic, I gained my ophthalmic nursing degree qualification from Hull University.

Approximately 10 years ago I became a Clinical Nurse Specialist in medical retina and assisted in the setting up of a nurse led intravitreal injection service and specialised in monitoring patients with diabetic macula oedema.

More recently I spend my working time between the Diabetic Macula Oedema injection and monitoring service and working alongside CNS Tracy Humphreys and Dr Brown on the Diabetic Eye Clinic managing patient with diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy.
