UHNM launches new service to help SAS and LED doctors develop their careers
University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has launched a new service to support Specialty, Specialist and Associate Specialist (SAS) doctors and Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) with their professional development and career progression.
The Thrive, Empower, Aspire (TEA) Service will help SAS and LED doctors explore their career options, including opportunities to progress to Specialist Grade roles and work towards GMC Specialist Registration.
The service offers peer coaching, portfolio reviews, career discussions and guidance to help staff overcome professional challenges and make the most of development opportunities.
Dr Jananie Perera, UHNM SAS Tutor and Clinical Oncology Specialist Doctor, said: “SAS and LED doctors play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care across UHNM, and it’s important that colleagues have the right support to develop and progress throughout their careers.
“Having worked in LED and SAS roles since joining the NHS, I understand how valuable it is to have guidance and encouragement when considering the next steps in your career. The TEA Service has been developed to provide that support, helping colleagues explore opportunities, build confidence and make the most of their potential.
“The service brings together experienced UHNM colleagues who understand the opportunities and challenges associated with these roles, providing a supportive environment where SAS and LED doctors can access peer coaching, share experiences and learn from others who have taken similar career journeys.
“I’m delighted to be part of a team that can support colleagues across UHNM and help them continue to develop, progress and thrive in their careers.”
