Midwife recognised with Daisy Award for outstanding and compassionate care

A midwife at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has been recognised with a prestigious international Daisy Award after going above and beyond to support a patient and their family through a complex pregnancy and postnatal period.

Jude Davies, lead professional midwifery advocate at UHNM, was nominated by a patient who shared how her care had a life-changing impact during a particularly challenging time.

In her nomination, the patient described Jude as “an absolute hero”, praising her for providing consistent emotional support, reassurance and advocacy throughout pregnancy and after birth.

She said: “I couldn’t have done this without her. Jude was always there, always supportive and helped me through some incredibly difficult moments.

“She made sure I felt listened to, safe and cared for every step of the way. She went above and beyond for me and my family, and I will never forget the difference she made to our lives.”

The nomination also described how Jude supported the patient through several hospital admissions and helped her feel calm and reassured during her delivery.

Presenting the award, Ann-Marie Riley, UHNM chief nurse, said: “The Daisy Award recognises extraordinary nurses and midwives, and Jude really shows what that looks like in practice.

“It was incredibly moving to hear about the difference she made. Her compassion, dedication and commitment to going the extra mile really stood out and this is exactly the kind of care we want every patient to receive.”

The DAISY Award is an international recognition programme that celebrates nurses and midwives who demonstrate exceptional compassion, kindness and professionalism, and who make a meaningful difference to patients and their families.

Speaking after receiving the award, Jude said: “I’m really happy to receive this award. For me, it’s about doing what I always aim to do, making sure women and their families feel listened to, supported and cared for.

“It means a lot to be recognised in this way, especially knowing what the Daisy Award represents. I feel very proud as a midwife to be part of this.”
