Consultant represents UHNM at international geriatric medicine conference
A consultant from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has returned to India to share his expertise with doctors from across Asia.
Dr Anil Kumar, consultant physician and geriatrician at County Hospital, was invited to Kolkata to take part in GSICON 2026, the annual conference of the Geriatric Society of India.
The conference was Dr Kumar's second visit to India in just over a year after he travelled to his hometown of Patna last summer to teach doctors about elderly care at three local medical colleges.
Dr Kumar joined experts from Japan, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore to share knowledge and experience in caring for an ageing population.
During the conference Dr Kumar delivered a talk on building the workforce needed to support healthy ageing, focusing on teaching and training in geriatric medicine, attracting interest from delegates, including the Secretary General of the Geriatric Society of India.
Dr Kumar also took part in a panel discussion on healthy longevity in Asia, sharing the stage with international speakers to discuss how care for older people could develop across the region.
