Vascular surgery

The vascular surgery service at University Hospitals specialises in the treatment of complex vascular problems such as abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, lower limb revascularisation and carotid surgery. The service also provides routine vascular surgery such as treatment for varicose veins.

A dedicated team of consultant vascular surgeons, headed by clinical lead for vascular surgery Mr Jack Fairhead, diagnose and perform a number of procedures such as vascular reconstruction, open and endovascular aneurysm repair, limb amputation and vascular renal access. The team also consists of consultant interventional radiologists who perform endovascular reconstruction and repair.

In 2012, University Hospitals formed a Vascular Alliance with Mid Staffordshire and Leighton hospitals which aims to strengthen and streamline service and delivery of vascular surgery. The move was also made to improve patient outcomes across the area by performing surgery in a high volume, specialised centre at University Hospital.

The vascular surgery wards are located on the lower floor of the Lyme Building. Ward 106 is used for male vascular surgery patients while the adjacent ward 107 is used for female vascular surgery patients.
