Requirement:

High vaginal swab, vulval swab, labial swab, cervical swab, endocervical swab, penile swab, urethral swab

NB use blue topped thin wire charcoal swab for male urethral swabs

 

Turnaround Time:

3-5 days

Culture and microscopy for common pathogens

Other Comments:

NB If chlamydia or gonorrhoea suspected, please send swab in Cobas media: see Chlamydia page


Collection container: Copan e swab - liquid Amies media.  Collect swabs into appropriate transport medium and transport in sealed plastic bags.


Special instructions: Relevant clinical data and details of recent or current antimicrobial treatment must be provided:


Specimen transport: If processing is delayed, store at ambient temperature, do not refrigerate
