Richard Webb – Clinical Optometrist and Independent Prescriber
Richard Webb qualified as an Optometrist from Aston University in 2008 and has since developed a broad and advanced clinical skill set within both hospital and community eye care settings. He began his hospital career at Wolverhampton Eye Infirmary, where he served as a Specialist and Clinical Lead Optometrist. During his time there, Richard gained extensive experience across multiple ophthalmic sub-specialties, including macular disease, emergency eye care, glaucoma, research, and complex contact lens fitting. He also completed his Independent Prescribing qualification during this period.
Richard now divides his time between running a successful independent optometry practice and working in glaucoma clinics at University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM). He holds both the Professional Certificate and Higher Certificate in Glaucoma and has a strong interest in hospital-based glaucoma care as well as enhancing community-based glaucoma screening and monitoring.
In addition to his clinical work, Richard is actively involved in optometric leadership and training. He has served as the training lead for the Local Optical Committee, where he played a key role in delivering the professional development for primary care optometrists involved in Staffordshire’s community glaucoma pathways.
