UHNM Team of the Month: Breast Imaging Administration Team

Staff from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) have been praised for the kindness, inclusivity and day-to-day support they show one another.

The Breast Imaging Administration team at County Hospital, Stafford, has been named UHNM Team of the Month for February in recognition of the supportive environment they have created.

The team was nominated by colleague Elena Hill, appointment scheduler and clerical officer, who said the inclusive and caring culture within the team has enabled her to thrive as a neurodivergent member of staff. 

Elena said: “I wanted to nominate the entire Breast Imaging Admin team because of the kindness and support they show every day, especially to me.

“I have dyscalculia and dyspraxia, which means I face ongoing challenges with numbers, coordination and processing information quickly, especially under pressure. In my role as an appointment scheduler, working out appointment times on the spot is a constant task that can sometimes feel overwhelming, particularly during busy or stressful periods.

“The whole team has always been there to support me. They are patient, kind and never make me feel like a burden when I ask for help. Their understanding and encouragement have made a huge difference to my confidence and how supported I feel at work. Knowing I can rely on them gives me reassurance every day.”

Elena paid particular tribute to colleague Joanne Taylor, breast data coordinator, whose thoughtful gesture made a lasting impact.

She said: “Without me asking, Joanne quietly created a custom spreadsheet that automatically calculates appointment times for me. She sent it with a simple message: ‘A time calculator just for you.’

“But it isn’t just a spreadsheet, it represents so much more. It shows that Jo truly understands the challenges I face and cared enough to create something that gives me independence and reduces my stress. It’s a reminder that I am seen and supported. This showed me that Jo and the team as a whole truly see and understand the challenges I face and want to help in meaningful ways.”

The team were presented with their award by Dr Simon Constable, chief executive. 

Dr Constable said: “The compassion, understanding and practical support shown by the Breast Imaging Administration team is a powerful example of what inclusion looks like in action. Their approach reflects the values we see across UHNM every day, and it’s wonderful to recognise a team that brings those values to life so clearly.”

Elena added: “The kindness and support from the Breast Imaging Admin Team reflect UHNM’s commitment to being an inclusive workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. I’m proud to be part of such a team and honoured to nominate them for Team of the Month. Thank you to Jo and the whole Breast Imaging Admin Team for making such a positive difference.”
