UHNM’s neonatal and paediatric teams celebrate success at regional training awards

Neonatal and paediatric teams from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) are celebrating after winning three awards at the West Midlands Paediatric Awards for Training Achievement (PAFTAs).

UHNM’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was named ‘Best Training Unit’, Kathleen Crutchley, advanced neonatal nurse practitioner, won ‘Training Hero - Best ANP/ANNP,’ while Dr Tania van Westering, ST7 doctor on NICU, received the ‘Training Hero - Medical (Vishna Rasiah Award)’.

The PAFTAs, organised by the West Midlands Paediatric Training Committee, recognise the work being done to support paediatric training across the region.

UHNM staff were also highly commended or nominated across several other categories, including educational supervision, senior and junior trainees, nursing and non-training grade doctors.

Dr Julia Uffindell, Clinical Lead for Neonatology at UHNM, said: “We are incredibly proud of everyone who works in our teams in all areas of NICU, general paediatrics, paediatric intensive care (PICU) and community paediatrics. These awards recognise the hard work and commitment that goes into supporting postgraduate doctors in training every day. Creating a positive learning environment is key to delivering safe, high-quality care for babies, children and young people, and this recognition reflects the strength of our teams across services.”

Katy Edwards, NICU Matron, added: “This is fantastic recognition for our teams and colleagues. Training and supporting staff is central to everything we do, and these awards highlight the care, dedication and teamwork that our neonatal teams show day in, day out.”
