UHNM Chief Executive Award winner: Pharmacy team

A team from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has been recognised for their contribution to the successful Trust-wide roll-out of the Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (EPMA) system.

UHNM’s Pharmacy team has received the Chief Executive’s Award from Dr Simon Constable in recognition of their exceptional work supporting the implementation of EPMA across all adult inpatient areas.

The introduction of EPMA marks a significant milestone in UHNM’s digital transformation, helping to improve efficiency in medicines management, strengthen communication between clinical teams and, most importantly, enhance patient safety.

The roll-out was delivered through a whole-organisation, multidisciplinary approach, with the Pharmacy team playing a central role in leading, supporting and championing the programme from planning through to delivery.

Beccy Kirkham, Care Group Operating Director, who nominated the team, said: “UHNM’s Clinical & Scientific Services Care Group is proud to nominate the UHNM Pharmacy team for a Chief Executive Award in recognition of their exceptional contribution to the EPMA roll-out.

“This represents a huge step forward for the Trust. The team have shown real expertise, commitment and resilience throughout, championing the programme every step of the way, even when some of those steps had to be sideways or backwards.

“We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and professionalism shown by the team in delivering such a significant milestone, and we are enormously proud of what they have achieved.”

Presenting the award, Dr Simon Constable said: “This is a significant achievement for UHNM and a really important step forward in how we deliver care.

“I know how much work has gone into making EPMA a reality, from the planning through to implementation, and it hasn’t always been straightforward. The Pharmacy team have played a pivotal role throughout.

“So much of what Pharmacy does happens behind the scenes, but it is absolutely central to how we function as an organisation, particularly in supporting patient flow and helping us get things right first time.

“This is a well-deserved award and something the whole team should be very proud of.”
