UHNM Chief Digital Information Officer scoops prestigious national award

Amy Freeman, Chief Digital Information Officer at University Hospitals North Midlands (UHNM) has been awarded ‘Chief Information Officer of the Year’ by Digital Health.
 
The Digital Health awards celebrate dedication and excellence across healthcare, recognising the achievements of senior NHS IT leaders and upcoming innovators who are driving transformation.
 
As Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) at University Hospitals of North Midlands, Amy has driven national impact, from shaping NHS digital policy and launching pioneering AI programmes, to securing buy in and support for a regional shared electronic patient record.
 
Amy has been a part of the CIO Digital Health Network for more than ten years has undertaken two terms as CIO Advisory Panel Member and for this next term will be Chair of the CIO Advisory Panel.  She is an original Faculty member of the First Board CDIO programme and is co-chair of the Midlands Digital Skills Development Network, supporting more than 400 staff.

Amy said: “To be nominated by my peer group who I respect is a real honour. I feel proud that I have been recognised and it means a lot to have received this award thanks to my amazing digital colleagues. 
 
“Coming together as a network and having like-minded people around you is really important and key to sharing and collaborating on new ideas and innovations. I look forward to continuing my learning with the network and bringing that knowledge back to UHNM.”
 
Amy is also a part of their mentoring programme, has spoken at a range of digital health’s events and has worked towards improving digital infrastructure across the NHS.
 
Nominees were judged by representatives from the Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO) Advisory Panels, as well as members of the Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) Council and Digital Integrated Care System (ICS) Council.  

CIO of the Year judge, Paul Jones, Chief Digital Information Officer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Each year, the calibre of nominations continues to rise, showcasing groundbreaking work across a wide spectrum of disciplines, from patient engagement to system transformation.”
