Sew Grateful: Sewing Bee Winner Dedicates Final Dress to UHNM Staff

Congratulations to Caz from Staffordshire, who has been named winner of this year’s Great British Sewing Bee.

Caz, 60, underwent open heart surgery four years at Royal Stoke and, in the final, designed a striking dress featuring an external ribcage and heart as a personal thank you to the UHNM teams who cared for her.

Speaking to us today, Caz said: “I wanted to share the biggest thank you in the world to the staff at UHNM who looked after me, they do not know what a difference they make to me and everybody. I cannot speak highly enough of staff at every single level, from the caterers and the cleaners to the doctors and nurses- they were all brilliant.

“Every day I’d go to bed and wake up being so grateful but didn’t do anything to say thank you. When this all came up, I immediately knew what I wanted to do, and it seemed a perfect way to publicly say thank you.”

Judge Patrick Grant praised her final creation as a “masterpiece”, recognising its “incredible drama” and commending her courage, flair and technique.
