Royal Stoke senior sister honoured with Cavell Courage Award

A senior sister from University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) has been presented with a prestigious national award in recognition of her exceptional leadership, compassion, and resilience.

Emily Cliffe, senior sister on Ward 121 (Medical Diabetes and Endocrinology) at Royal Stoke University Hospital has been awarded the Cavell Courage Award after being nominated by more than ten of her ward colleagues. 

Emily’s nomination highlighted her dedication to her team, advocacy for patients, and her compassionate leadership.

Her colleagues describe her as a “role model who uplifts others, fosters progression, and inspires courage in those around her”.

The Cavell Courage Award, presented in partnership with national charity Cavell, celebrates individuals in nursing and midwifery who have shown extraordinary personal or professional courage.

Emily was presented with her award by Jane Holmes, deputy chief nurse. 

Jane said” “Emily represents the very best of nursing, compassion, integrity, and unwavering advocacy for her patients. Her dedication and leadership are truly inspiring, and I am incredibly proud of her, and she should be immensely proud of all she has achieved.”

Speaking about the award, Emily said: “I never expected anything like this. To receive the nomination by so many colleagues on the ward is amazing. They’re like a family and mean the world to me, so to know that I’m doing something right for them and I’ve got their support is the most important thing to me.”
