Exceptional Care- Exceptional People: Staff celebrate achievements together at fourth UHNM Annual Showcase

Staff from across University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) came together at the Wade Conference Centre in Hartshill to celebrate all things research and innovation at the fourth UHNM Annual Showcase.

The multi-disciplinary event, organised and hosted by UHNM’s Centre for NMAH Research and Education Excellence (CeNREE) and Academy for Continuous Improvement, showcased the achievements and successes of wards and departments from across UHNM through a display of posters and series of presentation workstreams.

Attendees were able to vote for their favourite poster, with sponsored prizes given out by Ann-Marie Riley, UHNM’s Chief Nurse.

Ann-Marie said: “The event is one of the highlights of the year for me, showcasing the talent we have here at UHNM, and it’s important to recognise the work they have done. It demonstrates how fantastic our staff are at being professionally curious and trying to improve the care we provide for our local population.”

There was also a keynote speech from patient safety campaigner Lisa Richards-Everton.

Dr Ruth Bednall, Assistant Director for Quality Improvement at UHNM said: “We’ve had some exciting posters and presentations by colleagues who have carried out some impressive work to improve the care of the patients that we serve here at UHNM.

“We want to build the capabilities and skills in our workforce to be curious as to why things are working the way they are, and what they can do to make this better. We owe it to our patients that we are a proactive and research-active organisation, because we know that organisations that research and education is strong, patient care is better.”

Dr Alison Cooke, Assistant Director of Nursing for Research and Academic Development at UHNM and CeNREE Lead added: “There is so much good work going on at UHNM and it’s so exciting to have one day to show it all off and for colleagues to come along and find out what is happening in other areas.

“Today has highlighted that UHNM is a great place to work with some fantastic and high-quality work going on. These are our people doing this work and it’s great to have an event where they can show it off.”
