Yvonne Davies

Yvonne Davies works as a business manager in HR at Royal Stoke, having joined us a number of years ago from the banking sector. She had always wanted to work in HR, but was thrilled when she got a job working here, initially as a PA in Pharmacy, where they expanded her role so she could help with HR tasks.

After returning from maternity leave some years later, Yvonne was able to fulfill her dream of working in HR and has now progressed to become a manager. Now her son Edward has recently begun to work here in Pharmacy!

Yvonne said: “I’m really grateful for the support I’ve received since starting at UHNM. I’ve been helped to develop in my roles and to achieve what I wanted to. And the fact that Edward is receiving the same great opportunities as me is just brilliant, I know he’s enjoying it.” At UHNM, we want to help both new and current employees to progress in their careers.

We are one #UHNMfamily – and sometimes that’s literal!

Why have you always wanted to work in HR and what is it that you enjoy?
I have always been interested in business but always people focused.   I enjoy being able to add value through focusing on business needs whilst  at the same time being able to make a difference for employees in the workplace.   A hospital career in HR is interesting, varied, challenging but so rewarding and through enhancing working lives you know that ultimately you are improving care for our patients.

Why do you like working at UHNM?
UHNM is my second family –  it is full of amazing people who contribute so much, doing incredible things to make UHNM an outstanding hospital. I have been a patient here myself on numerous occasions over the years and the compassion and care I received has been second to none. I feel proud to be able to give something back, to say thank you, and to be able to play a part in supporting local health. It is a privilege to work for UHNM.

How has the trust helped you to progress?
The Trust recognised and supported my keen interest in HR right back in 1996 and provided the exposure needed to gain HR experience.   This was initially through undertaking Pharmacy personnel admin and leading onto staff engagement activities.  I was then supported to develop a basic HR database which was recognised at Divisional level and further adopted across the Division. The Trust supported my professional CIPD studies leading to Chartered Membership and this together with the experience I had gained enabled me to secure a junior HR position some 17 years ago.   Continued  support and development in HR has enabled my career to advance to that of Divisional HR Business Partner.

How is your son finding working here?
Edward recently gained a first Masters Degree in Pharmacy and is currently working to complete his pre-registration year in order to fully qualify and become registered with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.   He was very pleased to secure a pre-registration Pharmacist position with UHNM. He is particularly interested in hospital pharmacy and wanted to work for his local hospital. He is thoroughly enjoying his experience, particularly ward based pharmacy,  and is learning so much from highly experienced clinical colleagues.
