UHNM Consultant Haematologist awarded honorary professorship
A Consultant from University Hospitals of North Midlands (UHNM) has been awarded an Honorary Professorship within the School of Medicine at Keele University.
Dr Kamaraj Karunanithi, Consultant Haematologist, has been awarded Honorary Professor in Haematology after establishing his expertise in cancer research, specifically in myeloma at UHNM and has been principal investigator for more than 30 national and international clinical trials.
Dr Karunanithi plans to bring new state-of-the-art cancer treatments to UHNM, working collaboratively at national level to improve patient cancer care, making it available to everyone, whilst planning to improve and support research initiatives in UHNM to make exceptional care a reality.
Kamaraj (Kam) has been closely connected with Keele for several years within the School of Medicine at an academic level and within the Faculty of Medicine. In the later position he worked closely with the Faculty Dean for Research in ensuring a joint research strategy is planned and organised clinical academic appointments are made.
Professor Karunanithi said: “I am delighted and enthusiastic about the opportunity to be an Honorary Professor at Keele University. With many years of expertise in research, I am committed to contributing my knowledge and engaging in collaborative research initiatives.

As a Consultant in Haematology and Oncology, he has been very active in exploring different treatments for cancers affecting the blood, especially myeloma. Kam is a great example of how we can help patients, support colleagues and create rewarding careers at UHNM."
