UHNM doctor scoops employee of the month award

A doctor from University Hospitals of North Midlands has scooped a Trust award for her leadership and improvements within training environments for postgraduate doctors.

Dr Alex Tabor, a UHNM Consultant Paediatrician, was recognised with the Trust’s employee of the month award for compassionate leadership and being instrumental in securing resources and improving the standards of training across four main clinical areas. These were community paediatrics, general paediatrics, paediatric intensive care and neonatal intensive care.

Alex was acknowledged in her nomination for supporting the postgraduate doctors in training, seeking the resources they needed to improve their working conditions and for her regular junior doctors’ forum meetings which have engaged managers and clinicians providing noticeable improvements.

The nomination came from Dr Will Carroll, UHNM Consultant Paediatrician, who said: “I have watched Alex work tirelessly to make her department a better place to train. From small acts of kindness to hours spent with colleagues who are struggling in their working lives, her contribution to the training environment is hard to overstate.

“She embodies compassionate leadership, listening carefully to understand the problem, empathising and helping. Those who spend even a few minutes with Alex immediately feel cared for.”

Lisa Thomson, UHNM Director of Communications and Charity said: “I am proud to present the Employee of the Month Award to Alex for the unbelievable way she approaches her work. It’s great to hear how Alex demonstrates incredible leadership and how she shows kindness and compassion to people she meets and works with. The additional improvements she provides to develop the training environment is exceptional. Congratulations Alex.”

Alex said: “I am so happy to be nominated and to receive the employee of the month award. To be acknowledged for my work is just so lovely. I enjoy helping and listening to what my colleagues need so it makes my job even more rewarding knowing they are happy.”
