UHNM welcomes 11 fully qualified international nurses

UHNM officially welcomed 11 fully qualified international nurses to the Trust today. The group – who come from India, Ghana, Malta, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates - have successfully passed their clinical examinations and are now fully registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. UHNM has recruited more than 90 nurses from across the world over the past few months.

Stella Underwood, International Nurse Lead, said: “We have received very positive feedback about these nurses from the wards, we are very pleased and proud of them. They have actually been working all across the trust including critical care, theatres, medicine, surgery and specialised medicine. They are already proving to be a great asset to the Trust.”

Due to the pandemic the group was required to quarantine in their accommodation for 10 days on arrival in the UK.

Ann-Marie Riley, Chief Nurse, said: “This group joined UHNM during a particularly challenging time but we have been incredibly impressed by their attitude, commitment and diligence. Many of them have also offered to support the later cohorts during their transition to the UK and UHNM, so it’s really great to see that they are ready and willing to help others in a similar position. We are incredibly proud of their success.”

All 11 students passed their OSCEs (objective structured clinical examination) within two months of arriving in the UK and are now undergoing preceptorship, where newly registered professionals are helped to integrate into their new place of work.

The group were presented with certificates celebrating their achievements by Tracy Bullock, UHNM Chief Executive.
