Medical Secretary thanked by couple for being their ‘Guardian Angel’

A medical secretary has been thanked for the support and peace of mind she has brought to a patient and his family. Cancer patient Anthony Daniel and his wife Julie wrote to express their appreciation for the work of Jane Rogers, who works in the cancer centre. Jane, who has recently celebrated her 25th year working for the NHS, helped to co-ordinate appointments for Mr Daniel and also arranged conversations between clinicians at different trusts.

Mr Daniels has received treatment for cancer and also has challenges with mobility. He was diagnosed and initially treated at the Cancer Centre at Royal Stoke before being transferred to the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital.

Mrs Julie Daniel, Anthony’s wife, said: “Anthony broke his collar bone and because he has a history of bone cancer we needed to speak to the team looking after him at the walk-in centre. I spoke to Jane who quickly found out who was who and what to do which led to his doctor at Stoke contacting the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital to ensure all involved in his treatment and care were informed.

“Jane was an angel, co-ordinating all of it, arranging conversations between doctors at Stoke and at Royal Orthopaedic and took away the two big boulders I felt I was carrying on my shoulders. Even winning the Euro Millions you can’t buy the peace of mind she provided and even called me back before she went home to check I was okay. She absolutely deserves recognition for acting so professionally and promptly to help me, taking away an awful lot of stress. The most precious thing you can give is your time and it really counted today. Jane is our hero.”

Mrs and Mrs Daniel have given Jane a UHNM Hero award in recognition of her dedication and compassion.

Jane Rogers said: “I am really grateful for this award from Mr and Mrs Daniel. I am so glad I could help them and it’s so nice to receive recognition. My role is to help and be the contact for patients in their cancer journey and help in any way I can. This year is my 25th year working for the NHS and I am really proud to work at UHNM especially in the last twelve months as we have all pulled together during such a challenging time.”
