UHNM Charity thanked for tireless pandemic work

During the pandemic the UHNM Charity team managed and hand-delivered thousands of items donated by around 100 local businesses and community groups

UHNM Charity have been thanked for their outstanding work during the pandemic. During the course of 2020/21 the small team of six supported patients by providing new equipment so that they could communicate with their families. They also hand-delivered thousands of goods to staff including approximately 30,000 Easter eggs, 15,000 Mr Kipling cakes, 2,000 hand creams and more than 1,000 hot meals.

UHNM Charity also funded and organised contemplation gardens, which provide a peaceful space in which to reflect and unwind.

The team’s work has attracted new income and significantly increased the charity’s profile both in traditional and social media.

Lisa Thomson, Director of Communications and UHNM Charity, said: “Managing the huge quantities of donations we received required skill in navigating storage and access, as well as distribution, across both sites. This was often at pace to ensure the goods reached our staff quickly. 

“The team also supported patients and families by providing equipment so they could keep in touch with loved ones. I am very proud of what the team have achieved and the difference they have made to our patients and staff.”

UHNM charity have been given the Chief Executive’s Award in recognition of their efforts.

Tracy Bullock, Chief Executive, said: “UHNM Charity often worked outside their normal hours and over weekends to ensure staff were able to benefit from the generosity of local people.  Notably, the Christmas campaign provided us with new friends, as well as support from some very famous faces, ensuring that for UHNM, Christmas was definitely not cancelled. I am very pleased to be able to thank them for their work in bringing some much needed relief and joy to staff and patients alike during this very challenging time.”
