A&E secretary excels in compassion for colleagues

A&E secretary Yasmin Sharif has been recognised for her exemplary compassion for colleagues. During Eid Al-Fittr, Yasmin cooked and delivered a fresh hot meal to Muslim doctors at work, using her own time. Yasmin also set up a prayer room within the emergency department, ensuring appropriate refreshments were available if needed.

Dr Chris Pickering, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, said: “Yasmin regularly goes beyond her role and over the past couple of years has increased the level of care she delivers to our new doctors in the department and most importantly to those who have travelled from overseas. Yasmin embodies the trust’s values of ‘together’ and ‘compassion’ by ensuring she does as much as possible to make these doctors settle locally and feel supported within the department.

“At no point does Yasmin ask to be recognised for this effort and she has always acted with incredible humility. The feedback from staff within the department has been incredible and has made those celebrating feel included, welcomed and most importantly, valued.”

Yasmin has been given the Chief Executive’s Award in recognition of her outstanding efforts.

Tracy Bullock, Chief Executive, said: “I’m delighted to give Yasmin this award, she has really supported other members of staff and in particular our junior doctors, by providing food and a level of support which would otherwise not have been available to them.”

Yasmin said: “I am delighted to receive the award and just want to say thank you to all of the A&E medical team for always supporting me in everything I do.”
