An operating department practitioner has been praised for helping to make Covid-related processes run smoother in Theatres. Christopher Wright, who works at Royal Stoke University Hospital, has worked proactively on a new process which ensures patients are put on to the most appropriate post-anaesthetic care pathway. He has been given the Employee of the Month award in recognition of his positive attitude and approach.

Ruth Brooks, who works in the post-anaesthetic care unit, said: “Chris’ work ethic is exemplary, he really is inspirational and always seems to go above and beyond the basic requirement of his role. Whilst the many changes and innovations we have seen due to Covid can be overwhelming, Chris has clearly demonstrated that changes in protocol can be addressed and he constantly and consistently puts them into practice. His kindness and professionalism continues with handover to the recovery nurse and he is always willing to assist with anything asked of him.”

Chris began working at UHNM as a domestic assistant in 2001. He then progressed to the role of an orderly in theatres, on to healthcare assistant and finally to his current role as an operating department practitioner.

Chris said: “I’m really thrilled to get this award, it’s great to be recognised and a nice surprise. I love working here, the team work is brilliant and so rewarding. I grew up in Stoke so it’s amazing to be able to care for the local people that I’ve always known.”
