respiratory medicine team

UHNM’s respiratory medicine team have been thanked by the hospital’s chief executive for their hard work and dedication during the Covid-19 pandemic. During the first wave and now during the second wave, the team have cared for a significant proportion of Covid inpatients. Together with the help of nurses from the COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) team and the oxygen team, staff have put pathways in place for the follow-up of all patients and have engaged with colleagues in the community by taking part in a weekly multidisciplinary team meeting where patient care is reviewed.

Dr Helen Stone, Consultant in Respiratory Medicine, said: “Winters are always busy for respiratory clinicians, but this one will be more so than any other before. My team have worked tirelessly, in addition to keeping many tertiary-level services running and as well as cancer care. The sleep and ventilation team have also been fantastic – preparing and training ward staff to deliver CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) on a large scale if needed. It’s lovely to have everyone’s hard work acknowledged, it’s a boost for team morale.”
