UHNM consultant appointed as Medical Advisor for Melanoma UK

Mr Wayne Jaffe has been appointed as a Medical Advisor for the national skin cancer patient support and advocacy group Melanoma UK. Mr Jaffe, who is Clinical Lead for Skin Cancer and a Consultant Plastic Surgeon at UHNM, joins a team of senior medical professionals available via nursing teams to assist patients as they seek information and advice from the charity.

Mr Jaffe has extensive clinical interests in skin cancer and is Chair of the Skin Cancer Expert Advisory Group for the West Midlands.

Mr Jaffe said: “Sometimes people want to talk to someone independent of their own care and Melanoma UK offers them the opportunity to do this. They provide a listening ear and the chance to seek further information, and this is where Medical Advisors come in. Simply put, if a patient has a particular question, I may be called upon by the group’s frontline team to help answer their question.

“I’m pleased and proud to be joining Melanoma UK and the team of other clinicians who act as Medical Advisors. I am very interested in working towards a future with less skin cancers in the UK and I am hopeful that through working together we will be able to achieve this shared vision.”

Melanoma UK work to increase awareness of melanoma and its prevention through advocacy, education, and research. They also offer support to melanoma patients, caregivers, and medical professionals and act as a support network for the patient community.
