Car parking
Please note, the Hilton Road Car Park (next to Harplands Hospital) is not owned by, affiliated with or operated by UHNM or any of its partners.
Patients, visitors or staff using this car park need to be aware that they will be subject to the stated car parking charges and that Royal Stoke permits or exemptions do not apply.
We are aware that the CCP car park signage is causing confusion and we have contacted the company to request that they change it as soon as possible.
Royal Stoke University Hospital
There are currently over 3,000 car parking spaces for patients, relatives and staff at Royal Stoke University Hospital. Parking can be difficult at busy times, such as afternoon visiting times. Allow plenty of time to find a space and ask a parking attendant if you are having difficulties. Visitors who are able to avoid the afternoon and come instead in the evening will find it much easier to park.
You can pay by phone for parking on the Royal Stoke site. Further details are available on all car parking Paystations.

Lyme Building - Patients and visitors attending the Lyme Building should use car park G near the CEC and Car Park D (these are pay and display car parks). The Lyme Building entrance is just past the maternity entrance.
West Building - The West Building is located close to the A34/Newcastle Road. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. We recommend you use car park's B or C (these are pay and display car parks).

Each building is close to a particular site entrance and hospital car park. Please use the guidance below when choosing which site entrance to arrive and which area to park.
Maternity Centre - The Maternity Centre is located close to the A34/Newcastle Road. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. We recommend you use either Car Park B next to the West Building or Car Park C next to the A34 itself. (these are pay and display car parks)
Cancer Centre - The Cancer Centre is located on the A34. Use the North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre to access the site. Car Park A outside the Cancer Centre is for those using that particular building only. Car Park C next to the A34 (accessed behind the West Building) should be used as a Cancer Centre overspill car park. There is a short cut through to the Cancer centre to avoid the need to walk around the perimeter of the West Building. (these are pay and display car parks)
Main Building/Trent Building - The Main Building can be accessed from either the Hilton Road entrance or North entrance of the A34 closest to Newcastle-under-Lyme town centre. All patients and visitors to the Main Building should park in car park's H or I.It is then a short walk to the Main Entrance of the Main Building.
*Car Parks H and I are pay-on-exit car parks, upon arrival to these car parks you do not need to obtain a ticket. Park up and head straight to your hospital appointment/visit. When leaving pay at the machine before exiting the car park (you will need to enter your registration). The barrier will automatically raise when leaving the car park.*

What about exemptions?
The Exemption Permit process will be the same as usual in regards to the patient process, whereby they will be issued with an Exemption Form which will be filled out by a Ward; they will then need to take this to the Multi-Storey Office. APCOA will then enter the details on to the white list which will allow the user to exit Car Park H/I free of charge until their Exemption Permit expires. Exemption vehicle details will be uploaded between the hours of 9:00 – 15:00, Mon-Fri.
What about Concessionary Permits?
The Concessionary Permit process will be the same as usual in regards to the patient process, whereby they will be issued with a Concessionary Form which will be filled out by a Ward; they will then need to take this to the Multi-Storey Office. Upon payment APCOA will then enter the details on to the white list which will allow the user to exit Car Park H/I free of charge until their Concessionary Permit expires. Concessionary vehicle details will be uploaded between the hours of 9:00 – 15:00, Mon-Fri.
Blue Badge Permit Holders
Disabled parking is available outside all main buildings. There are a number of 20 minute drop off bays close to the main buildings.
Blue Badge holders are subject to parking charges. The concession for Blue Badge holders on Car Parks H and I (Barrier system car parks) is 30 minutes from point of payment to exiting the car park. Blue Badge holders on all other car parks are able to park for an additional 60 minutes if the extra time is required without penalty. Will I be charged if I have to pay to leave the car park if I am unable to find a parking space?
The barriers will reduce congestion and abuse of the car parks so it is expected that more spaces will be readily available. It is envisaged that visitors will not have to wait in excess of 30 minutes for a space to become available and therefore will not be charged. Anyone entering the car park is allowed thirty minutes to either find a space or exit before charges begin.
Disabled parking is available outside all main buildings. Blue Badge holders are exempt from parking charges.
On Pay and Display car parks, please ensure your Blue Badge is visible to the parking attendant.
On the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) car parks, Blue Badge holders need to register their car registration(s) with APCOA either before or after their appointment. The APCOA kiosk is located on the Ground floor of the Multi-story car park as you enter to register their car for 12 months.
There are number of 20 minute drop bays close to the main buildings. These bays allow you time to escort the patient into the building and return to your vehicle. If you are unsure of where to go or need help finding a space please ask one of our parking attendants.
The Trust offers a concessionary parking permit for patients and visitors who visit frequently, which costs £15 pounds per week. The following patients and visitors are eligible:
- Patients who visit the Trust for several days throughout the week.
- Relatives of terminally ill patients who are visiting on a daily basis.
- Relatives of patients likely to be an inpatient for longer than two weeks.
- Relatives visiting for long periods of time outside normal visiting hours.
How to buy and display your Concessionary Parking Permit:
- Ask for a Concessionary Parking Permit Form from the ward.
- Ask a Ward sister/Departmental manager to authorise the permit.
- Take the completed and signed form to the APCOA office at the Multi-storey car park
- The form, valid for seven days only, will be authorised by the attendant.
- You must visibly display your permit inside your vehicle.
The Concessionary Parking Permit is valid for one week only. If you need subsequent permits, a new application form must be authorised by ward staff and be bought at an APCOA office. The parking permit is valid for one vehicle only.
Is anyone exempt from parking charges?
Patients/visitors who use Renal services, Maternity services, Critical Care, High Dependency and Cancer services can apply for an exemption from charges. Please speak with ward staff to apply for an exemption.
County Hospital
Patient and visitor parking is as close to the entrance of County Hospital as possible. Access to the car parks is barrier controlled and monitored by closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
Please be aware that at times parking spaces can be very limited but visitors are asked not to park outside official visitor car parks as this may inhibit access of emergency vehicles to different parts of the hospital sites.
To gain entry to the hospital car parks, patients and visitors must collect a microchip token at the barriers. Upon leaving the hospital, drivers must insert this chip into a ‘Pay on Foot’ machine (locations listed below). After making payment, the chip is returned to the driver, and this is inserted into the barrier machine when leaving the car park.
The ‘Pay on Foot’ machines can be found at the entrance to County Hospital. The machines will only take coins or bank notes and charge for the amount of time spent on the car park.
Visitors and patients with mobility problems can be dropped off or picked up at the main entrance. If staying beyond the required time to drop off a passenger, drivers must move their vehicle to an appropriate car park. Please note that parking in the drop off zones is strictly prohibited in order to allow access for ambulances and other service vehicles.
Patients and visitors who are disabled: Blue Badge holders are subject to parking charges, although Blue Badge holders can park for an extra 60 minutes free of charge at County Hospital.

An Electric Vehicle Charging Point is available at County Hospital. It is located on the right hand side at the bottom of the main road that leads up to the main entrance, is free to use and is available for everyone. Four motorcycle parking bays are available outside A&E. There is also covered motorcycle parking in the main A&E car park
