Armed Forces Community to benefit from guaranteed interview scheme at UHNM

Members of the Armed Forces community will be offered guaranteed interviews when applying for roles at University Hospitals of North Midlands in a new interview scheme to be launched later this month.

Applicants from the Armed Forces who meet all the essential criteria and specifications for a job description will be offered interviews under the scheme which has been established as part of UHNM’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and its accreditation as a ‘Gold Award’ Employer.

By providing guaranteed interviews, UHNM will be helping the Armed Forces community across Staffordshire and beyond to demonstrate their skills beyond the initial application stage, paving the way for greater employment opportunities at both Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital, Stafford.

UHNM recognises the transferable skills and cultural values that members of the Armed Forces develop and how these skills can be nurtured and utilised in NHS roles.

David Smith, UHNM Transformation Project Manager & Member of the Armed Forces Champion Team, said: “UHNM recognises that the Armed Forces community often face difficulties when applying for work and aims to help in removing any disadvantages associated with this.

“We have a large Armed Forces community network across UHNM and benefit from the talent and invaluable skills that this community bring our organisation.”

The scheme does not offer a guaranteed job but does allow veterans, reservists and their families a better chance to find work, especially when it can be hard for them to transition to civilian life and secure employment.

Emily Foxall, UHNM Recruitment Manager said: “UHNM welcomes more applications from those looking to bring their military expertise into the NHS and overcome employment barriers.

This scheme is part of our continuous commitment to supporting veterans, reservists, members of the armed forces and their families. As a Gold Award accredited employer it is our duty to ensure that our vast Armed Forces community in Staffordshire feel welcome at UHNM.”

Applicants can state whether they are a part of the Armed Forces Community on their application.
