Patient thanks UHNM “superheroes” for their outstanding level of care and support

Staff from County Hospital’s Ear Nose and Throat team have been recognised for their outstanding level of care after treating a recent patient following an operation.

Andrew Senior, Specialist Registrar, Richard Hughes, Head & Neck Surgeon and Medical Secretary Isobelle Colclough, were nominated for a Hero Award by Katie Gudger to acknowledge how well she was supported throughout her care.

The 53-year-old from Stafford had a routine scan which detected a lump on her thyroid which needed to be operated on, resulting in a partial thyroid extort.

In a letter to the Trust Katie described the team as kind and caring, any questions were answered to ease her anxiety and they showed empathy. The team made sure they checked on her before and after the operation which Katie said was an “outstanding level of care and support.”

On hearing about the team receiving the award, Katie said: “How wonderful to hear the team have been recognised with an award. My care was so fantastic, it is well deserved. In my opinion, they are all superheroes and deserve the best of everything!”

After being given the all clear, Katie is now recovering well following her operation and has no on-going health issues.

Lisa Thomson, Director of Communications and Charity said: “It was lovely to receive the letter of thanks from Katie and to read about the care and support she received during her treatment.  I’m so pleased to present this award to Dr Senior, Dr Hughes and Isobelle, congratulations!”
