UHNM degree apprentices complete Mary Seacole programme

Apprentices from University Hospitals of North Midlands have successfully completed their Mary Seacole programme as part of their Chartered Manager Health and Social Care degree apprenticeship with Manchester Metropolitan University.

Lois Dale, Speech and Language Therapist, Nicola Pattison Admin & Data Manager and Jayne Garrett, Strategy & Planning Support Manager from UHNM were presented with their Mary Seacole awards at a recent NHS Partnership Celebration event.

The Mary Seacole programme is for first time leaders in healthcare which will see apprentices study a six month leadership development programme, designed in partnership with global experts, recently refreshed and delivered by experienced facilitators to develop knowledge and skills in leadership and management.

Aysha Kent, Education & Future Workforce Manager at UHNM said: “We are extremely proud that our own UHNM managers Lois, Nicky and Jayne are in the first cohort of the CMDA with Mary Seacole programme.  The range of apprenticeships in partnership with the NHS Leadership Academy enables a balance of learning the theory and putting it into practice, empowering managers to turn their successes into team successes and to champion compassionate leadership and care.”

Speaking at the event, Professor Press from the NHS Leadership Academy said: “The Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship and the Mary Seacole programme are both part of embedding that staff development, and of supporting the NHS to develop leaders who are as strong in their skills as they are fierce in their commitment to the Service. At the heart of this programme is that commitment to delivering patient care in every corner of the country, every day.”
