UHNM Radiotherapy team win regional award

The Radiotherapy team from University Hospitals of North Midlands have scooped the ‘Midlands Region Team of the Year’ award at the Society of Radiographers Awards.

The regional awards celebrate individuals, teams and students from across the UK who have made a positive difference to patient care, service delivery or excelled academically.

Carolyn O’Donovan, Radiotherapy service manager at UHNM, nominated the team in recognition for the work that was completed over the last two years including a full major equipment replacement program and for implementing paperless working to the department.

The equipment replacement program proved to be challenging with the team changing their working hours to support increased capacity, whilst maintaining Covid-19 measures and introducing new equipment techniques to maximise patient safety.  The department introduced paperless working by developing training packages to support the new processes.

Carolyn said: “I am really proud of what we all achieve at UHNM and it is down to everyone playing their part in such a supportive team that allows us to achieve everything we do.

“The staff have responded to each challenge with remarkable goodwill and a willingness to do what is needed to ensure that the patients receive their treatment.

“It truly has been a collaborative and team based approach to a challenging situation. It has been a privilege to work with this team over the last two-and-a-half years during this replacement program and the introduction of a paperless workflow.”

The team will be presented with the award early next year and the nomination will now be put forward to be judged for the overall UK award.
