IM&T engineer thanked for dedication

An IM&T technical engineer has been thanked for his outstanding support of the neurophysiology department at UHNM. Joshua Thomas has been working closely with the team for a number of months overseeing an upgrade to Windows 10, but his dedication has also helped ensure the continuation of effective patient care and has saved money.

Rebecca Law, neurophysiology service manager, said: “Josh has liaised with neurophysiology and several third party service providers on a regular basis to ensure that our medical equipment continues to operate under Windows 10 and that our services continue to run smoothly and safely.

“During this extensive, time consuming project he has encountered multiple challenges with hardware and software incompatibility but he has tirelessly continued to troubleshoot these medical equipment issues, using his extensive skills and knowledge, whilst trying to keep costs to an absolute minimum for both the department and the Trust as a whole.

“Whilst keeping the service running safely he has always looked for ways of improving the way the department operates and he has brought other business change colleagues in to help us improve. Outside of this project, Josh has been on-hand to assist with urgent issues we have faced. For example, over the Christmas period we didn’t have a consultant on site but had multiple urgent inpatient EEGs to be reported. The consultants’ remote access failed and the EEG recordings could not be viewed in order to provide urgent reports to critical care areas and wards. Josh quickly recognised the impact this would have on patient care and made himself available immediately to help the department despite his workload. After trialling multiple options he succeeded in getting our consultant back online. Had Josh not achieved this for the department, the work would have had had to be urgently outsourced to an agency at significant cost to the Trust and this would have also delayed patient diagnostics and potential treatment.

“Josh is the definition of a team player and he will go out of his way to help others on a daily basis. No job, big or small, is an inconvenience to him and he will do all he can to help others. Josh is an asset to UHNM.”

Joshua has been given the Employee of the Month award in recognition of his contribution.
