Update on Maternity services at UHNM

University Hospitals of North Midlands is pleased to announce it will re-instate its home births service from Monday 21 February. This decision has been made following an improvement in service pressures and staff absence.

All women who have previously requested or had planned a home birth will be notified by their community midwife.

Covid 19 is still having an impact upon on all NHS services and therefore there may still be some cases where a home birth may not be an option and all women planning a home birth will be notified of these circumstances.

We understand what a difficult time this has been for expectant families and UHNM maternity service will continue to work with women and their partners to ensure that everyone is safe and has the right support.

Visiting and Attending Appointments

Antenatal appointments

  • One partner can attend all appointments

Scans

  • One partner can attend all scan appointments

Induction of labour visiting

  • One partner can attend for three hours, (Partner will be allowed to stay initially for three hours and will then be called once established labour has started)

Birthing visiting

  • One birth partner can attend when the woman is admitted in established labour

Ward visiting (205 and 206)

  • One visitor will be allowed to visit in three hour schedule time slots morning and afternoon. Please speak to midwife in charge on ward.

All visitors will be required to:

  • Wear masks at all times
  • Use hand washing/ sanitising facilities while they are in the building
  • Follow PPE guidance as instructed by staff
  • Take a lateral flow test before attending the hospital for appointments or birth and provide negative lateral flow test result
  • Ensure they have no Covid-19 symptoms prior to visiting or attending an appointment

Please note, unfortunately no children will be allowed to visit at this time.
