Children’s nurse is a “ray of sunshine”

A children’s emergency care nurse has been thanked by her team for being a “ray of sunshine”. Lesley Meaney, Sister, is known for going over and above to encourage and support fellow staff and for always being ready with a warm smile, no matter what the pressures of the day have been.

Nakita Emmens, children’s nurse, said: “Lesley is always greeting colleagues, patients and their families with a friendly smile and a cheery hello. We are facing a lot of pressure in the department and Lesley always supports the team’s wellbeing and encourages us to access support if needed. Lesley even funded a team awards programme herself alongside another member of the team. She provides additional training on techniques and skills that are not used frequently to help us all feel competent in our roles and also promotes and supports our team wellbeing from home as well as during work, using a range of platforms to ensure all members of the team are able to gain access. Not only does this boost staff morale but it also motivates us when working, especially when we are experiencing extremely busy shifts.

“The support Lesley offers children and families in our care is incredible, she truly tenders to every family's needs and doesn't show to patients or staff how difficult her day has been. Lesley is the epitome of UHNM’s Trust values and is an inspiration to the team, our students and the wider UHNM community. She  deserves to be recognised for what a difference she is making to not only patient experience, but also staff wellbeing and morale.”

Lisa Thomson, Director of Communications and UHNM Charity, presented Lesley with the Employee of the Month award in celebration of the difference she makes to her children, their families and her team.
