Three County Hospital porters helped to save an elderly patient’s life recently after they suffered a cardiac arrest at the hospital. Alan Bentley, Wesley Plimmer and Kerry Jones came to the aid of the patient who seemed unwell and went to get medical assistance. Alan Bentley, who formerly worked as a police officer, immediately began performing CPR.

Simon Barker, Facilities Business Manager, said: “Initially the patient thought that she was just having a panic attack so the porters got a wheelchair for her, but before she could even sit down, she collapsed and arrested. Wesley ran to A&E to get assistance whilst Kerry stayed with the patient and Alan did CPR. I am told that Alan Bentley’s actions largely contributed to this lady’s survival. This is a truly amazing achievement and we are very proud of all our portering team at County.”

All three members of staff have been given a Chief Executive’s Award in recognition of their swift action.
