A Breast Reconstruction course hosted by UHNM and Keele University, and held in November 2016, was the first of its kind to be conducted in the UK.
The techniques discussed by the teaching panel and delegates included a cadaveric course on prepectoral form of Breast reconstruction using implants and BRAXON (a biologic mesh made from porcine dermis) and cadaveric skills training on LICAP and AICAP flaps which are used for partial breast reconstruction.
Mr Soni Soumian, Consultant Oncoplastic Breast and General Surgeon, said: "We were delighted to host this course and the feedback we have received from the delegates has been very positive. This was a one-day course, with 17 attendees who are all consultant oncoplastic breast surgeons. Some of the new techniques that were discussed provoked interesting discussion between the panel and delegates, which led to a really vibrant and interactive session.
"The conference also demonstrated the continued partnership between UHNM and Keele University and it's important we continue to share skills and experiences for the benefit of both institutions."
There will be another course taking place in the mid of 2017 at Keele University which will deal with oncoplastic breast reconstruction techniques.
