UHNM has one of the largest Foundation Programmes in the region with 71 Foundation Year 1 (FY1) posts and 84 Foundation Year 2 (FY2) posts across 5 hospitals and numerous community sites. These placements have been supported by staff across the programme and have provided excellent training for the doctors of the future.
The most recent Foundation School review of the GMC National Trainee Survey shows we have 13 green flags for excellence and no red flags highlighting concerns. This is exceptional and the best of all trusts in our Foundation School.
As part of supporting training, each Foundation doctor should have a Placement Supervision Group statement completed at the end of each training block. Supervisors across our placements have recognised the importance of completing these reports. Over the past 12 months UHNM has gone from completing 214 forms at the start of 2016/17 to 535 at the end (more than every other trust in our Foundation School combined.)
Excellent support for our trainers was provided by the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (PMDE) team led by Ms Diane Jackson, the Foundation Programme Director Dr Nick Munyanyi, FY1 lead Dr Caroline Pruefer and FY2 lead Dr Amy Kennedy.
Dr Nick Munyanyi, said: "We recognise and greatly appreciate the support that the foundation doctors have received. This support comes from educational and clinical supervisors, all staff members of UHNM, other institutions outside UHNM and GP practices and we do hope that we will keep up this excellent work and help us to achieve our target of making UHNM Foundation training a shining example for the whole nation."
