Chief Midwifery Officer and Chief Nursing Officer awards

Two prestigious awards were awarded to UHNM staff at the UHNM Learning in Practice Conference on Tuesday 2 July 2019 at Keele University hosted by the Director of Nursing in NHS England, Hilary Garratt.

Practice Development Nurse, Dawn Moss and Midwife, Dr Lynn Dudley won silver awards for their exceptional and exemplary care and leadership in their roles. The Chief Midwifery Officer and Chief Nursing Officer awards have been developed to reward the significant and outstanding contribution made by Midwives and Nurses in England and their exceptional contribution to their practice.

Sharon Wallis, Head of Midwifery at UHNM said: "Lynn absolutely deserves this award and I am extremely proud of her. Midwives are in a privileged position to support women and their families at a very special time in their lives. Midwives are undertaking a wide range of specialist roles in a variety of settings including hospitals, community, birth centres, GPs surgeries and other primary care locations. The profession continues to grow and evolve due to the changing needs of the population."

Kate Hackett, Senior Nurse Education & Workforce Development at UHNM said: "Dawn is a great example for nurses across UHNM and the UK, she consistently goes above and beyond in her role providing excellent care, leadership and inspiration every day to her colleagues, patients and families."

Director of Nursing in NHS England, Hilary Garratt leads a nursing and midwifery team in NHS England that focuses on a number of national statutory functions and professional development priority areas. She is a registered Nurse and Health Visitor with over 30 years' experience of working in the NHS and has held a number of director posts and a deputy chief executive post in both Commissioning and Provision and has been working at National Director Level for the last four years.​
