ARTU team praised by fellow nurse

Newly qualified staff nurse Charlene Newsome (fourth from right) nominated ARTU for Team of the Month for giving such fantastic support as she started her career

UHNM's busy acute rehabilitation trauma unit (ARTU) have been praised by a fellow member of staff. Charlene Newsome started work on the ward as a newly qualified staff nurse recently and was impressed with the strong work ethic, commitment to patient care and support of colleagues.

Charlene said: "I was welcomed by the whole team and experienced members of staff treated me compassionately. This same compassion is also evident in their patient care and, whilst intense pressure could cause low morale, the team just gels and works fantastically together. All members of staff help, no matter what area they are allocated to. They all work to ensure patient care is delivered in a timely manner and I am very proud to be a member of the team."

Staff have been given the Team of the Month award in recognition of their outstanding efforts.

Rhiannon Alcock, Senior Sister on ARTU, said: "We are all proud to be members of the ARTU team. We work really well together and we've kept a positive attitude and teamwork through three years of really hard work.  We have done amazing things in that time, including achieving accreditation for our rehab beds. We have also just won 'Clinical Team of the Year' at this year's UHNM Staff Awards."
