North Midlands Breast Screening Service going from strength to strength

North Midlands Breast Screening Service are celebrating a recent success in an increase of uptake in attendance to the breast screening service and patient engagement.

Health Improvement Practitioner Gina Newman said: "Nationally, the uptake rates for breast screening have been in a 10 year decline, so we are delighted that we have seen an increase in the annual uptake for Breast screening in the North Midlands. All of this has been achieved with no funding, just hard work from staff, dedication and enthusiasm."

The team are also leading the way nationally, using digital technology to increase patient engagement through their Facebook page, which currently has more than 1,300 followers.

Gina continued "Facebook enables us to communicate with our service users with screening specific information and encourages engagement and advises on the correct pathways into the service."

Health Improvement Practitioner Jessica Mulroy Johnson said: "We have recently produced, with help from Redmoor Health, a health literacy friendly animation of the breast screening pathway. This animation is shown in local GP practices and has been viewed over 30,000 times. We have also produced a video of three local patients that were diagnosed with Breast cancer through our screening programme and have now had the all clear and are a success of the programme"
