A team of clinicians at University Hospitals of North Midlands have hosted a simulation day for the next generation of plastic surgery consultants. The 'FRCS (Plast) Simulation Day', which took place on Tuesday 5 September 2017, saw six senior plastic surgery trainees, principally from the West Midlands deanery practice for their consultant exam.
Mr Amir Ismail, Consultant Plastic Surgeon and course organiser said: "It's vital that we help guide the next generation of plastic surgery consultants and I'm delighted we are able to provide this simulation day at UHNM. Many of those who took part in the day will have been working for a decade or more to get to this point so you can imagine the pressure that they experience when they come to take the real exam." The team here at UHNM were able to provide a simulation of the real exam, inviting patients to attend to be examined by the candidates. Consultants from around the region acted as examiners. The feedback from the course was excellent.
Phyllis Dunn Clinical Lead CTS said: "The team included the medical staff, nursing staff, nursing assistants, clerical and support staff, all of whom provided invaluable contributions to the exam simulation. There was the real opportunity to achieve' excellence in education' for the whole team, as part of our 2025 Vision at UHNM. We would like to thank our patients for their participation and being part of our team. I would also like to congrulate Mr Amir Ismail for his outstanding organisation of the course.
"The UHNM Plastic Surgery service continues to expand, with expertise in the management of skin cancers, trauma and burns and has an exciting future ahead."
