University Hospitals of North Midlands welcomes the appointment of David Wakefield as substantive Chair.
Following today's announcement that David Wakefield has been appointed as substantive Chair for University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust Paula Clark, Chief Executive, said: "I am delighted to welcome David to UHNM as our new Chair. David's extensive experience both as an NHS Chair and in senior roles within the private sector will help us further build on the good progress that we've made both financially and operationally over the past 12 months.
"I would also like to place on record my thanks to Interim Chair Steve Burgin, who has done such a fantastic job since stepping into the role last year. Steve has provided the constructive challenge and support to help us achieve daunting financial targets including an unprecedented £50m of cost improvement savings. He also scrutinised the plans and processes that led to an extremely positive CQC inspection, which saw UHNM rated as 'Outstanding' for caring in addition to a number of significant improvements across our hospitals."
Steve Burgin, Interim Chair, said: "I would like to welcome David to UHNM and wish him all the best in what is a demanding but hugely rewarding role. UHNM is a large and complex organisation and since I stepped in as Interim Chair there have been some real challenges to overcome. However, I'm consistently amazed at the resilience and dedication of UHNM staff and I'm sure David will enjoy working with such a diverse and committed workforce. Although we have made significant progress this year, we are all keen to move into the next stage of our recovery and transformation programme. Having a substantive Chair of David's calibre will be pivotal in helping us achieve this."
