Royal Stoke University Hospital has recently implemented a system of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) barrier controlled parking within the main car park on site (Car Parks H and I). The system has been implemented as a direct result of patient and visitor comments, feedback, and complaints regarding the previous system utilising pay and display.
It was agreed that the key objectives following this feedback were to improve patient experience by creating parking capacity for patients and visitors and reducing the patient journey while also improving the accuracy of tariff charging. All of these key objectives have been achieved.
It was previously agreed that, as a concession with the pay and display system and due to the extended patient journey , that while Blue Badge holders are not automatically exempt from parking charges and are subject to normal tariffs, they are able to park for an additional 60 minutes if the extra time was required.
With the new ANPR system installed on car park H and I, not only has the ability to park been significantly improved, but also this patient journey has significantly reduced. Therefore, with effect from 15 July 2019, the concession for Blue Badge holders will be amended on Car Parks H and I to 30 minutes. This concession will apply automatically from the point of payment to exiting the car park barriers to allow extra time to get to your vehicle and load any additional equipment (wheelchair etc.) that a patient/visitor may have.
On all other car parks still currently operating under the pay and display charging system, the concession will remain that while Blue Badge holders are not automatically exempt from parking charges and are subject to normal tariffs, they are able to park for an additional 60 minutes if the extra time is required without penalty.
