Nursing Assistant supports breast cancer patients

Julie Leech, a Nursing Assistant in the Theatres department at UHNM has been raising awareness of Breast Cancer by giving out Next 'Just Pink' perfume to patients as part of Breast Cancer Now's pink ribbon breast cancer awareness campaign.

The pink ribbon has been a symbol of breast cancer for over a decade and is an international symbol of awareness, helping to raise money for research that's working to discover how to prevent breast cancer, how to detect it earlier and how to treat it effectively at every stage.

Julie Leech, Nursing assistant, said: "I want to help patients who are going through this experience, as being a patient myself I know how it feels. I understand the feelings of worry and distress when awaiting the outcome of treatment, so as I was recovering myself, I wanted to help those going through a similar experience."

Julie contacted 'Next' and thanks to their generosity and support for the campaign they supplied her with the perfume 'Just Pink' to distribute to patients as a sign of support and empathy.

Julie added: "I thought that the 'Just Pink' perfume symbolises a similar meaning to the pink ribbon that everybody knows, and with it being Christmas I thought it would be appropriate to distribute these perfumes as gifts to patients across the breast clinic and theatre."
