Cardiac rehabilitation at UHNM

The cardiac rehabilitation department at University Hospitals of North Midlands provides cardiac rehabilitation services to individuals throughout North Staffordshire.

The department comprises a team of healthcare professionals including nurses, physiotherapists and exercise physiologists, with the assistance of pharmacists, doctors and consultants.

Cardiac rehabilitation is offered at a variety of venues throughout North Staffordshire, allowing patients the convenience of attending exercise sessions closer to home. In 2013-2014 49% of patients were offered rehabilitation within two miles of their home, and 79% of patients offered rehabilitation within four miles of their home.

Completion of cardiac rehabilitation with the team at University Hospitals of North Midlands has been linked with a 20% reduction in cardiac readmissions within one year of a cardiac event.

The team has been recognised nationally winning the 2014 Patient Safety Award for cardiac care and being highly commended in 2015 by the Patient Safety Awards for managing long term conditions.
