Darren Ely - Specialist Medical Engineering Technician

Darren Ely
"I have worked in Clinical Technology for 16 years helping with the servicing and repair of Medical Equipment. I currently work with the Imaging and critical care teams.
I spent 10 years in the Royal Navy as a Weapons Technician and currently volunteer as the Chairman for the local Sea Cadet Unit TS Talent. The unit offers a wide range of activities for the cadets to participate in such as Water Activities (Sailing, rowing, canoeing, kayaking, power boating, swimming)
Cooking, Stewarding, Shooting, Field craft, Drill, Engineering, Seamanship, Going to sea on Sea Cadet Ships, various visits to places (HMS PoW, HMS Collingwood, Cosford Air show…etc.) and many other activities all based on a Royal Navy Ethic but most importantly making sure they have FUN.
We operate as a charity and raise all funds ourselves to keep going. This is a challenge, as it is where myself and the standing committee come in. We try to raise as much money as we can, to provide the kids with the best experience we can. We currently have 36 cadets at the unit across the 3 groups (Juniors(10-12 years old), Sea Cadets(12-18), and Royal Marine Cadets(13-18))
If you would like any more information on the cadets, please visit our facebook page: Sea and Royal Marine Cadets – Stoke On Trent, and are based at the TA Centre, Ivy House Road, Bucknall, ST1 6AB.
