Restorative Dentistry involves the care of
patients who require the restoration of the Oral and Dental tissues. Much of
this work involves Multi Disciplinary Team care, with treatment planned jointly
between several different departments, such as Orthodontics, Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery and Plastic Surgery.

At University Hospitals we provide a specialist
consultation service for local general dental practitioners who need assistance
with treatment planning regarding advanced restorative procedures, denture
related difficulties such as periodontal (gum) problems, and dental treatment
planning for those patients with medical complications.
We also provide
a service that looks after the Head and Neck Cancer patients. Patients suffering
from this disease have specialist requirements, and need dental assessment,
ongoing hygiene education and therapy, dental maintenance regarding simple
things like fillings and extractions, and provision of dentures. A number will
also require complex oral and extra Oral Prosthetic Rehabilitation with
Obturators and Implants.
Our Dental staff work with together with the
Orthodontic team in the planning and delivery of treatment for patients with
missing teeth including Hypodontia, Secondary Rehabilitation for Cleft Lip and
Palate, and Aesthetic Rehabilitation following some orthodontic
treatments.
