The Major Trauma Centre at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust was launched in March 2012. Since then we have seen a steady increase in the number of severely injured patients treated within the hospital. We have close links with the ambulance service, the air ambulance and our neighbouring Trauma Units in Staffordshire, Shropshire, Cheshire and North Wales.
The Trauma Service at UHNM brings together a range of specialist services including Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Intensive Care Medicine, Traumatic Orthopaedics, General and Vascular Surgery, Radiology, Plastic Surgery, ENT, Maxillofacial Surgery and, crucially, Rehabilitation Medicine. These teams work together to provide comprehensive care to patients who have sustained serious injury. The medical and nursing staff are integral to delivering holistic care encompassing the complex physical and psychological needs of patients and their families. The Trauma Service ensures it maintains high quality care by delivering a comprehensive education and training programme for staff and providing regular case review meetings.
Anonymous data on our trauma population is sent to the National Trauma and Research Network (TARN). Our results for trauma patient outcome are some of the best in the UK. We are proud of our achievements to date and strive to continually improve the quality of care our patients receive.
